I was driving in the car last week with Isaac in the back seat and I hear him say "I want to listen to Isaac songs." For a little while I couldn't figure out what he was talking about. As I rifled through the CD's in the car I remembered that someone had bought him a CD of worship songs that had some personalized narration to it. So for example before a song about God's love the narrator might say, "Isaac did you know that the Bible tells us that nothing can separate us from God's love?" It turns out that was exactly what he wanted to listen to. As I was listening to how "Father Abraham had many kids" and watching Isaac trying to do the motions while he was strapped in his car seat I couldn't help but notice that even though this CD is filled with worship songs to God he referred to it as the CD of "Isaac songs." In the midst of all these great worship songs what he heard most was his own name. I began to wonder how often do I make worship of God about me? Do I go into a worship service at church thinking what am I going to get out of this (is it going to make me feel good)? Or do I go in with the attitude of "What can God get out of this?" Those are two very different questions and they will change drastically how I approach worship and how I feel in the midst of it and after it.
Personalized Worship?
